Welcome to The Vodka Guy’s website

The James Bond Vesper cocktail at the Vesper bar in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las VegasI’m a simple soul: I like vodka. So here I’ll be writing about my favorite drink, including reviewing vodkas, sharing some vodka cocktail recipes and videos, reviewing some books about vodka, and meeting a few vodka folks.

I got my love for vodka on my first visit to Russia, when a fellow traveler introduced me to the tangy taste of bison grass vodka (which I know is Polish) to help pass a long coach journey. So I would like to drink a vodka toast to the late Peter Fairley, a thoroughly nice guy, one-time science writer and later a travel writer, who didn’t know that he was starting me off on a life-long love affair with vodka when he opened his bottle and poured me a drink.

It was later on that same trip, where we ended up in Siberia, that Peter also introduced me to the even tangier taste of pepper vodka, long before such flavors were readily available in the west. I remember searching high and low, and paying a price that was high not low, for bottles of bison grass vodka and pepper vodka when I got back home.

Since then I’ve explored the world of vodka a lot more, read all the books I could get, and tasted all the vodkas I could afford! My day job as an award-winning travel writer gives me the perfect excuse to visit cocktail bars and distilleries wherever I travel. I like to think I’ve learned a little on the way, and as a result I now write about vodka and other drinks for the excellent Chilled Magazine. You can see some of my vodka and other stories here at Chilled Online.

In fact let’s drink a toast to vodka lovers everywhere, as we enjoy our favorite drink – whatever the flavor, whether it’s smooth, top-rated, in or out of fashion, whether it’s a top 10 vodka or a cheap one from the bottom shelves. Enjoy. Want a refill?
